This page summarizes the product billing rules a SaaS developer needs while integrating Custom Domain Kit.

Testing Mode

Testing Mode is for early integration and real DNS tests.

• It costs $0/month.
• It supports up to 3 non-BYO domains.
• Testing Mode domains are automatically deleted after 3 days.
• Use it to verify setup sessions, DNS records, traffic, and webhook delivery before production rollout.

Unlock Domain Limits

Unlock domain limits when you need production usage beyond Testing Mode.

• The subscription costs $10/month and includes 50 non-BYO domains.
• Each additional non-BYO domain costs $0.18/month, billed in arrears.
• Non-BYO domains are counted for Custom Domain Kit billing.
• Domains in your own Cloudflare account are excluded from Custom Domain Kit product billing.

Hosted Domains

Hosted domains are domains managed through Custom Domain Kit's hosted mode. They count toward Custom Domain Kit domain limits and billing.

Your app should handle payment_required responses by sending an account owner to the billing page before retrying domain creation.

BYO Cloudflare Domains

Domains managed in your own Cloudflare account are not charged by Custom Domain Kit. They may still be billed by Cloudflare under your Cloudflare account.

What to Communicate Internally

• Testing Mode is temporary and auto-deletes test domains.
• Production usage needs an unlocked plan.
• BYO domains follow Cloudflare billing, not Custom Domain Kit hosted-domain billing.
• Your product still controls whether each tenant is allowed to use custom domains.
